Abby Hutchinson, 6th Generation
Abigail “Abby” Hutchinson, is the manager and CEO of Hutchinson Ranch, the oldest family-owned ranch in the Upper Arkansas Valley. She is proud to be a woman rancher, bold entrepreneur, and mother to her 8 year old daughter, Aven. Abby’s passion is managing the ranch’s Red Agus cow-calf operation, farming 800 acres that run between Salida and Poncha Springs, and selling grass-fed beef directly to consumers.
Abby graduated from Colorado State University in 2005 with a BS in Animal Science. She then returned to the family ranch to work alongside her dad, Art, and grandpa, Hutch. Over the last decade, she has built and run a successful event business using a unique barn located in the heart of the historic ranch for weddings, live music, community and family events.
In addition, Abby is extremely active in the community. Her collaboration with Hutchinson Ranch partners, Guidestone Colorado and the Children’s Discovery Ranch, provides ag experiences to the wider community. Her work on the Fair Board and Chaffee County Cattlemen’s Association has kept the county’s fair and rodeo relevant, supports working agriculture, and provides a connection between ranchers and the rest of the county. Her ultimate goal is to preserve the ranching history in Chaffee County and educate future generations through hands-on learning — all while running a sustainable, working ranch!
